Our Show Girl Started Limping!
Maybe we wouldn’t have been on heightened alert if she wouldn’t have been on the show cut, but last week our 5 months old, Aretha, started limping. It started with just a slight limp and progressed from there. She had no temperature and was still eating well.
We waited a week and she was still putting very little weight on it. Our vet was brought in, X-rays done and we found a problem in the area around the knee joint. We put her on antibiotics and sent the X-rays to a specialist. There was concern over infection in the growth plate (I guess common in horses). The recommendation was to start with blood work to see if there was any infection in her system. To our relief it came back clear. Diagnosis, she was probably stepped on.
She’s doing much better already and I can hardly detect her limp.
